Vice Presidential Debate

After last night’s Harris and Pence debate —sort of moderated by Susan (since she likes first names) from the sort of newspaper, USA Today, I wonder who is more horrible. Trump an out of control sadist, or Pence, an entirely in control sadist. Unlike Trump, Pence is a more traditional kind of horrible. He reminds you of the sort of guy that would go to church every Sunday, and then the maid would discover that he had someone tied up in his basement for 20 years, and everyone would say, “He seemed so nice.”

But his friends definitely knew that something was down there, but thought if they didn’t ask questions and prayed fervently enough —the kink would go away and he would eventually repent and release the gimp.

Mike Pence is the head of the COVID-19 taskforce, and there are 210,000 people in his basement. When asked about this, he continually blamed China, Obama, China again. Pence then went on this rant about how the Trump administration “creat[ed] new PPE.” What does that even mean? He then took a field trip to the future where he talked about vaccines and how we would have one. At some point, he tried to gaslight Harris into agreeing to take a vaccine that doesn’t exist yet but will. Then when she said she would not, like any sane person, he said.

“So the fact that you continue to undermine public confidence in a vaccine if the vaccine emerges during the Trump administration, I think, is unconscionable. And Senator, I just ask you, stop playing politics with people’s lives.”— Pence.

Vice Presidential Debate 2020

That quote comes out of Pence’s mouth after his administration said they weren’t going to negotiate a stimulus package to offer relief for the millions who have lost their job until after they win the election, then the administration changed its mind just hours before the debates. Who is playing with people’s lives, Pence?

I’ll quote Pence here since he said this like three times to Harris:

“You’re entitled to your own opinion, but you’re not entitled to your own facts.”

One finger pointed forward is three fingers…

As that debate was happening, thousands of people died owing to the ineptness of the Trump administration and the head of the COVID-19 taskforce, you know, Pence.

This morning in the US, we have 212,000 people dead of COVID-19, and over 7.5 million cases of COVID-19. Pence shares the blame for that.

Harris’ more than reasonable and truthful response to Pence’s excuses for his failure at handing this deadly pandemic was to explain that this was “the greatest failure of any presidential administration in the history of our country.”

And with some of the world’s highest death rates and a job loss rate that surpasses the Great Depression with no stipends her statement was not hyperbole. People are being forced to choose between risking death from a deadly disease and eating. That’s literally happening. Harris’ description was an accurate and fair assessment of the administration. Actually, it was quite generous.

There was literally a fly buzzing around him, which in art symbolizes a dereliction of duty. In “The Flies” by Jean-Paul Sartre, the flies turn into Furies. Furies are female chthonic deities of vengeance in ancient Greek religion and mythology.

Though Pence had better manners than Trump, who was simply unhinged, he was just as vile and disrespectful, and a more convincing liar, but liar nevertheless. He continually went over time and did not answer questions.

Some of Pence’s Vice Presidential Debate lies:

  • “President Donald Trump has put the health of America first.” —He has almost dismantled ACA and he is turning Medicaid from a guaranteed program to a fight for your life program via block grants.
  • “President Trump’s leadership, Operation Warp Speed, we believe we’ll have literally tens of millions of doses of a vaccine before the end of this year. “—It would be impossible to have a safe vaccine with the ability to distribute it to everyone by the end of the year, no way that’s happening. Unless they plan on using the American public as human guinea pigs, and you know what happens to the guinea pig after the experiment is over? They chop off its heads and examine its brains (you better vote, like right now.)
  • “We have seen Donald Trump unifying our country around our common values and principles.” —Trump engaged in stochastic terrorism ( the incitement of violence towards a group, done by public demonization for example using the twitter to disparage Mexicans) and told white supremacist to intimidate us at the polls.
  • “President Trump cut taxes across the board.” —Cutting taxes for the rich isn’t across the board.
  • “I would never presume how Judge Amy Coney Barrett would rule on the Supreme Court of the United States, but we’ll continue to stand strong for the right to life.”—You know exactly how she is going to vote and you and your little friends don’t seem to give a damn about people who are alive.

Then the moderator Susan ends the debate —not with a question on the war in Afghanistan that the US has been engaged in for 20 years, not on K-12, not on the Voting Rights Act, or not even on the fact that climate change has been removed from the White House website. No, Susan ends the debate with a question from an eighth grader named Breklin from Utah:

“When I watch the news, all I see is arguing between Democrats and Republicans. When I watch the news, all I see is citizens fighting against citizens. When I watch the news, all I see are two candidates from opposing parties trying to tear each other down. If our leaders can’t get along, how are the citizens supposed to get along?”

Dear Brecklin you don’t get along with fascists and trickle down economics isn’t real

I’ll answer it for you, Brecklin. Because Trump and his administration are fascists and fascists, you fight them. You don’t get along with fascists.

I am going to end this recap  of the Vice  Presidential Debate on Harris’ quote.

“You respect the American people when you tell them the truth.” —Harris.
