Republicans are not conservative

My social studies teacher in 8th grade said, “a conservative is a person who believes if it is not broken, don’t fix it.” An honest conservative would recognize that racism is a broken system.

In the dictionary, conservative means cautious and unwavering values. You can apply this definition to people who do not want to pollute our lakes and our oceans. You can also use it to describe a person who does not want to take financial or social risks.

A conservative would look at something like COVID-19 and issue a stay at home order with stipends.

What the United States calls conservative in regards to politics is not conservative. Conservative is a misnomer for a group of people who have run up our debt to $27 trillion. According to the Washington Post, the debt is quickly approaching WW2 levels when the US debt was equal to the entire economy’s size.

The administration can’t blame this on COVID-19. In May of 2019, the US Public Debt (debt owed to lenders inside the country) was $22 trillion, an historical high.

Owing to a boggled CDC response of COVID-19 led by the Trump-appointed religious zealot, Robert Redfield, MD, we are quickly approaching 200,000 dead and 6 million infected.

What one wants in a director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is a scientist of impeccable scientific integrity,” said Peter Lurie, MD, MPH, executive director and president of the Center for Science in the Public Interest. “What one would get in Robert Redfield is a sloppy scientist with a long history of scientific misconduct and an extreme religious agenda.”

HCP Live, 2018

Redfield sits on the board of the Children’s Aid Fund, which was started by evangelical Christians and has championed abstinence-only education for HIV prevention “and other non-evidence-based approaches based on religious belief rather than science,” said Gregg Gonsalves, an associate professor at Yale Law School.

Redfield is political. The CDC halting evictions are terrific. Why was that not done six months ago? People died because of this politicized timing. Now the agency Redfield runs is in charge of coordinating the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Public health experts agree states should be prepared to distribute the vaccine when it becomes available, “but the possibility of a rollout in late October or early November has heightened concerns that the Trump administration is seeking to rush the distribution of a vaccine — or simply to hype that one is possible — before Election Day on Nov. 3.”

NY Times, 2020

We’re 62 days from the presidential election. The Republicans have no platform. Trump has been impeached. Trump has yet to release his tax returns even though the courts have ordered him to do so, and he just randomly violated the Hatch Act at least a dozen times during the Republican National Convention.

The Republicans are not conservative. They are sadistic racists. Nothing is happening right now that is anywhere near what is in the realm of conservative.

We need to stop the racist, reckless, and sadistic from casually using the term conservative.
