Last night’s debate between Trump and Biden was another 90 minutes of lies coming from Trump’s mouth. There was nothing superior about Trump’s performance last night. He was too ill to lie with enthusiasm because he has contracted an extremely contagious and deadly disease due to his narcissism.
The Trump post-debate normalizing by “reasonable” independent, progressive, and even left media was infuriating.
The public looks to the media for not only information, but for an informed, authoritative opinion. If a person or organization who views themselves as a journalist says or implies anything Trump did last night was in the realm of OK they are a disgrace to the field of journalism and themselves.
In the Society of Professional Journalist Code of Ethics, it states we are to SEEK THE TRUTH AND REPORT IT and MINIMIZE HARM. Since the first 1926 Code of Ethics was adopted in Madison, Wisconsin by the Sigma Delta Chi —our code demands minimizing harm to the public.
The reason I’m am covering this presidential race is to minimize harm. To combat exactly what I saw post debate, a normalization of this sadistic, incompetent, murdering, buffoon.
Trump’s LIES hurt the public.
Journalism was freed from the Mayflower Doctrine’s purantiancial requirements in 1949, why in god’s name are we going back?!
The Mayflower Doctrine had good intentions when the FCC introduced it in 1941 (or so say the people who wrote the archives). It required the media to tell all sides of the story and not “pick sides” or editorialize. This bizarre interpretation of “objective” in the United States and the institutionalization of this in the 1941 Mayflower Doctrine is, in some ways, the root of the lying we allow today in American media.
The Mayflower Doctrine was thrown in the trash in 1949 and replaced by the Fairness Doctrine, because allow liars to lie with no editorial opinion on it is an utterly ridiculous framework to do journalism under.
Letting a person lie and lie and lie and as long as they do it politely and having it be allowable and unchallenged is not balanced.
And by challenged, I mean a journalist saying directly, “You’re a lying, murdering, fascist, do you not see the quarter-million people dead around you owing to your incompetence or is it indifference, Mr. President.”
Not this laughing chuckling that was done in post-debate talks. There is absolutely nothing funny going on now.
A blatant lie should never get the same weight as the truth.
And this is what happens when Trump is normalized for acting like a restrained sociopath sadist, instead of an unhinged sociopath sadist.
Here are the lies he told last night:
Trump: He said we have to help our small businesses by raising the minimum wage. That’s not helping. I think it should be a state option.
That’s a lie and he also blew a racist dog whistle with the “states rights” assertion.
Trump: I don’t know. Somebody went through Wall Street. You’re the one that takes all the money from Wall Street. I don’t take it.
That’s a lie, Trump definitely takes money from Wall Street. Is inauguration was paid for by Wall Street.
Trump also said he was cured of COVID19:
“I can tell you from personal experience, I was in the hospital. I had it and I got better. And I will tell you that I had something that they gave me, a therapeutic, I guess they would call it. Some people could say it was a cure, but I was in for a short period of time. And I got better very fast or I wouldn’t be here tonight.”
Trump on COVID19 being over:
“If you take a look at what we’ve done in terms of goggles and masks and gowns and everything else, and in particular ventilators we’re now making ventilators all over the world, thousands and thousands a month distributing them all over the world. It will go away. And as I say, we’re rounding the turn. We’re rounding the corner. It’s going away.”
COVID19 is definitely not over, and it is spiking all over the US.
Just a taste of the constant racism:
“They never come back. Only the really… I hate to say this, but those with the lowest IQ, they might come back, but there are very, very few.”
Trump being racist and awful about Mexican immigrants.
“And I’ve changed. Without having a specific, we got rid of ‘catch and release.’”
Trump continuing being racist and awful about Mexican immigrants.
That’s better? That’s professional. That is in the realm of presidential?
Shaping this debate from the Mayflower Doctrine interpretation of objective would make it easier to murder the American public. Stop saying that the lying of a man who gave himself COVID-19 is normal.
Nothing about this man is normal. Nothing about what is happening is normal.
At one point one of the talking heads said Biden was being “a bit dark,” because he brought up a quarter million people are dead from COVID-19 and that Trump killed them.
If a foreign country had done this —we would right now be building monuments to the destruction of their country, we would annihilate their civilian population with nuclear or chemical weapons, we would kill their leaders through our proxies and upload the videos so people could watch them die on a loop during their lunch breaks, to say Biden was being dark is to not fully understand how willing Americans are to indulge in the deadly sin of wrath.
To try to put an happy positive spin on this in my opinion puts your reasoning skills into question.
Trump and Biden are not anywhere near the same.
We need to vote this lying sadistic fascist out the White House —and get back to normal imperialism.
