Ending mask mandate will murder Latinos and Black people, President Biden must act

The Republicans are proposing 253 anti-voting laws and lifting COVID-19 mask mandates to kill off the Black and Chicano Democrat voting base.  Ending mask mandate

It is not a paranoid speculation.

The current configuration of the Republican Party is white supremacy. They are the successors to the Southern Partisans rooted in the ideals of the Confederacy. The Confederacy terrorized Black people in the U.S. South for centuries through slavery, beatings, rapes, incarcerations, and murder.  This violence continued as the Southwest was colonized and settled by post-war Southerners, these violent techniques were used to subjugate Méxicans, Native Americans, and Asian people.

Out of the post-antebellum Confederacy came lynching, Black codes, and a prison system explicitly created to reenslave Black people and stop Black people from voting. In the West, it brought the Chinese Exclusion Act and the Foreign Miners Tax specifically for Chinese immigrants to reduce their competitiveness and murder them during the Gold Rush. For the Méxicans, the Southern Partisans enacted ethnic cleansing, displacement, and the murder of men, women, and children. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848 promised U.S. citizenship to Méxicans living in what became the U.S. Southwest. Approximately 90 percent of Méxicans accepted the offer and chose to stay in the United States, but the vast majority of Anglo Americans broke the treaty and stole the Méxican-American’s land, stripped them of their right to sue for redress, and then attempted to erased them from the history books.

All groups were disenfranchised from voting in various ways in the Southwest and the South.

Republicans are pushing for 253 anti-voting laws to prevent Black people and Latinos from voting.  In many states, Republicans are attempting or have succeeded in loosening COVID-19 regulations just as we are about to conquer this disease.  This is letting the disease escape to have one final round of killing, maiming, and hurting in states where they have the power.  And the intent is to kill people of limited means, most of which are of African descent and Latino.  Dead people cannot vote, and the Republicans are very aware that they are facing a demographic shift.

Vanity Fair  article from Fall 2020 details Trump Administration’s plans to hinder public health efforts in large “Blue Cities and Blue States”.  The idea was to let Black people die so they would not be able to vote  AND their communities would then blame the Blue Mayors and Governors.

“Most troubling of all, perhaps, was a sentiment the expert said a member of Kushner’s team expressed: that because the virus had hit blue states hardest, a national plan was unnecessary and would not make sense politically. “The political folks believed that because it was going to be relegated to Democratic states, and that would be an effective political strategy.”

An email by Trump-appointed science advisor Paul Alexander from May 3  acknowledged that “minority groups are at a higher risk [for COVID-19]–on the face, this is very accurate,” Alexander.

“Scott (Pauley)…Please hold on sending this out.” U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, May 29

The Requested “Hold” was regarding CDC data stating that Black and Native Americans had a 4.5 times hospitalization rate and that Latinos had a 3.5 times hospitalization of white people after contracting COVID-19.

Republicans have been using this knowledge since spring 2020 to hurt people who, in all probability, would vote against their ideas and candidates.

In Texas, Latinos account for 30 percent of all eligible voters, and despite reports (lies) to the contrary, facts show that Latinos vote Democrat overwhelmingly, especially when compared to white voters. White supremacists in Texas have specifically targeted Spanish speakers for voter disenfranchisement for over 150 years.

A study demanded by Black legislators in Texas revealed that COVID-19 has hit the Latino community hard and disproportionately in Texas. Latinos account for 54 percent of the reported deaths, outpacing African Americans and Native Americans and outpacing the rate of death of Latinos nationwide.

The African American Community in Texas is 10th in regards to engagement in the voting process in comparison to African Americans in other states across the nation. That engagement in Texas has a dependable 85-95 percent dedicated to the Democratic Party vote. This is in spite of Texas regularly breaking the law with illegal voter ID laws that target both Latinos and African Americans. African Americans are the least likely to have a government-issued ID in Texas.

The African American hospitalization rate is at a higher rate than other populations in Texas.

Texas is close to a watershed political shift that has been building in the 2018 and 2020 elections.  In response, Texas Republicans have proposed ten anti-voting laws. Texas Governor Abbot’s announcement allowing a full opening for businesses and ending mask mandate —all these combined acts are for sure designed to minimize Republican losses in the midterm and the 2024 election.

Missississippi lives up to Nina Simone’s famous song, “Mississippi God Damn.” The nightmare never fails to ride roughshod over the state.  Conservative Republicans in the state have proposed 13 anti-voting laws aiming specifically at its African American community.  In Mississippi, African Americans are fourth on presidential voter turnout for African Americans in the nation, second in midterm voter turnout for African Americans, and second highest in African American voter registration. Despite being thwarted by a large, open, white-supremacist population at every turn, they continue to use their vote. Mississippi has the highest percentage of Black voters of any state, and it is flippable —if voter rights laws are not broken. But Mississippi has a long history of “state’s rights” and killing and jailing Black people. Still, with Georgia’s election of two Democratic Senators, an African American and a Jewish American, “change may be a comin’.” So, of course, Mississippi’s white supremacists are proposing 13 anti-voting laws, and with its Governor Reeve lifting mask mandates it might be just enough to literally murder the supporters of that change.

Mississippi’s African American population makes up over half of the people who have died of COVID-19, but only 16% of the people who have gotten vaccines. A lifting of mask mandates, especially with the African American population heavily employed in essential worker jobs, could be disastrous.

We cannot allow this. What is happening in the South and their cousins to the West is an atrocity. It is not Democracy. The Constitution applies to Chicano, Latinx, and Black people. The Social Contract is an idea that applies to everyone. These actions are an attack not only on Black and Latinos but also on the United States.  The federal government must issue stipends so that Black people and Latinos can stay home, and not be at the mercy of “state’s right” dead-ender confederates and white supremacist bourgeoise scum.
